A Hero’s Hideout

In a five-room HDB flat tucked away in Ang Mo Kio, a Marvel fanatic took it into his own hands to create the ultimate hero’s hideout. The homeowner positioned his main working area in the centre of two rows of his most prized possessions. As a devoted sneakerhead, his shoes found home in the bottom row of his LED glass display cabinets. At eye’s level, the homeowner is able to admire his Marvel collectibles on his right and Transformer action figurines on his left.

A true balance of style and functionality, the homeowner’s Superman edition gaming chair not only aligns with the overall superhero theme, but also guarantees maximum comfort. Lighting plays a huge role here, as the light from the multi-colour LED lighting strips diffuse gently across the room, splashing colour onto the otherwise plain walls. This study room design makes a mundane task like WFH (Work From Home) feel like saving the world!

Barnyard Brilliance

Despite the fact that modern style homes are usually regarded as the opposite of rustic style homes, this homeowner made the bold choice to have a modern-rustic-themed home renovation. To make the study room more airy, the walls were hacked, connecting the study area with the living area. Windows were thoughtfully placed in front of the study table, separating the living room from the study room while ensuring that natural light can pass through easily.

Besides functioning as a study, this space also acts as a recreational space. With a rocking chair situated right next to the blinds, the homeowner can enjoy spontaneous sessions of rest throughout the day, and hop back to work effortlessly when necessary. The retro sliding barn door adds to the rustic ambience, making the overall workspace look inviting and cosy.

Private Nordic Library Sanctuary

Nestled within this landed property located in Serangoon Gardens lies a gorgeous private Nordic library sanctuary. The scandinavian-themed renovation of the entire property costs around $200,000, which was definitely worth the investment considering how beautiful the project turned out to be.This is definitely a book lover’s dream come true. The wide collection of books added vibrant colours to the otherwise brown-themed space, immediately capturing the attention of anyone who walks past this open-concept workstation.

Contrary to the usual study desks that are plastered to the walls, placing a work island in the centre of this space allows both homeowners to work collaboratively on days where they have to work from home. It also acts as a unique centrepiece, both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The location choice of the study matters too. By choosing this spot, the homeowners have an advantage of an abundance of natural lighting during the day. Such natural light is proven to reduce eye strain and drowsiness, being a power driver of productivity—essential for a study.

A Glass Dome Retreat

Hacking has become a popular choice for HDB owners as some hope to have a more spacious living room. However, you can also consider hacking one of your rooms and building up a partial partition. This homeowner wanted a study area isolated from the rest of the house, while allowing natural light to waltz through the house. The homeowner hacked one of the rooms and constructed a half-height partition, and used glass for the other half.

By doing so, homeowners can take important business calls within the soundproof study, while still being able to keep an eye on the children. Elements of the living room design extends to the study—such as the single rod lights, making the overall design look cohesive.

Situated in the middle of the home, the kitchen and living room are easily accessible, while still maintaining privacy.

Tranquil Mediterranean Japandi Haven

The room in this 100m2 two-bedder condominium was converted into a study room, simple in furnishing but sophisticated in design. Consistent with the rest of the house, arches were used in the study to frame the centrepiece—the built-in study desk. A curved display shelf is built onto the wall, adding dimension to the walls while still being a functional addition that can display other pieces of decoration or books. It is a brilliant choice to use a wall-mounted desk rather than regular tables, as the absence of legs reduces visual clutter.

The window bench beside the work space is a special area where homeowners can have a quick pick-me-up lounge right after an intense call or meeting, or whenever they feel like it’s time for a well-deserved break from the computer. Installing lights along the shelves  brings depth and dynamic to each shelf, elevating the ambience. The potted plants of varying sizes help to brighten the mood of the study room, and relieve stress effectively.
